Do I need mental health counseling/ psychotherapy?
We all experience normal levels of stress and life difficulties. However, if your symptoms of stress, sadness, hopelessness, anxiety last for more than a few weeks, you may need therapeutic assistance.
In addition, there could be other concerning psychological symptoms indicating mental health issues such as mood swings, anger outburts, excessive crying, impulsive behavior, trouble sleeping/concentrating or suicidal ideation. Although psychotherapy is beneficial for most people, some may not find this emotional process effective for their situation.
Is Telehealth psychotherapy effective?
Psychotherapy via Telehealth has been proven benefitial. Telehealth services can be very convenient, easily accessible, and it decreases barriers to missing sessions. However, not everyone is a good candidate for telehealth therapy depending on your needs and comfort level with technology.
I've never been in therapy, what should I expect on the first and second visit?
First of all, congratulations on this new journey to self-care. Seeking help, specifically psychotherapy, can bring up different emotions. The first two sessions are part of the intake assessment. The client will be able to present reason for seeking services, get to know the therapist and will start to develop initial goals. Therapist will get to know the client, compile information about the client's life, strengths and presenting issues. All consent, treaments and office policy will be reviewed during this process. The treatment approach/modality will be determine durng the first few sessions.
How long would I need to be in therapy?
The initial recomended time for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is 12 weeks, however this may vary depending on the client and thier needs. Therapists and clients collaborative develop treatment plans and regularly keep track of the goals completion to determine the length of therapy.
How often do I need to attend sessions?
Psychotherapy sessions are usually weekly until agred agreed goals are completed, but this could vary. Talk to your therapist regarding your needs.
Do you accept health insurance?
At this time, our office accepts Cigna PPO.
We are working on enrolling in various insurance panels. If you have out-of-network benefits, we will provide invoices for you to submit to your insurance for reimbursement.
How much is a therapy session? When is payment due?
The rate for individual sessions start at $120 per 45 minute session. Payment is expected at the time of the visit. Sliding scale is available for clients with financial need.
Do I have access to my records?
Of course, please provide a written request for your records and allow approximately 10-15 business days to obtain copies of yours records.
Is my personal information protected?
Your information is kept in a HIPPA secured elctronic health records system. Information is not shared to any third party without your written consent.
What happens if I dont like my therapist?
This is a valid concern, but an easy one to solve. The key is to be honest and clear with your therapist about your concerns and preferences. Many times, the dislikes results from misunderstand0ings, misconceptions or as part of the sometimes difficult therapeutic process. If after openly discussing your concerns, you still do not feel comfortable, then work with your therapist to transition to a new provider. It is important to not terminate services abruptly. Therapists understand when clients prefer to work with other providers.
